Animation Art Show Exhibition & Auction 9 - 17 Apr 2016

The Ark is delighted to host the 2016 Animation Art Show, an art exhibition and auction in aid of Irish children's charities.

This event was first created by animators eager to use their talents to make a difference. Not only does it give animation artists a platform to showcase their personal work but every single cent raised goes to charity. To date the event has raised over €40, 000 for Irish children's charities!

This is one of the biggest events in the Irish Animation industry. More than 100 artists have donated work this year to be auctioned in aid of the ISPCC and Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland.

Some highlights of this year include a limited edition print from Cartoon Saloon’s Oscar nominated Song of the Sea, an original production cel from the much loved TV show Care Bears, an original painting by Oscar nominated director, Tomm Moore, to name but a few. The variety of work is truly amazing with a wide range of mediums including original paintings, sculptures, plush toys, paper cut illustration, animation cels and more. There will surely be something to suit everyone's taste!

Everyone is invited to pop in to The Ark and view the amazing artwork in the FREE exhibition over two weekends. And if you see something that you like and you want to put in a bid then come along to the auction on Sunday 17th April from 2pm-6pm!

Special Events for Children

Animation Workshops for Ages 8-12
Sunday 10 April @ 1pm & 3.30pm
In this workshop with the animators from Paper Panther Productions you will work in groups with other children to create animation using hand drawn and pixilation techniques.
• In the hand-drawn animation, you will start by inventing and drawing your own character onto paper. You will then be shown how to morph your character into another one from the group via a series of 5-7 drawings. This will create a loopable animation of shape-shifting characters.
• To explore the technique of pixilation (derived from the word 'pixie'), you will be part of animating real people and objects (including yourself) in front of a camera. The workshop will give you a hands-on understanding of how animation can be created. This is your chance to work with a professional animator and be introduced to two very different techniques.
Free entry on a first-come, first-served basis, voluntary donations welcome.
