Try your hand at a variety of fun crafts using different materials at this year’s Children’s Crafts Club for Ages 4+. Part of the TradFest Children's Hub 2018.
Taking inspiration from the Music in Glass Exhibition featuring the work of Róisín de Buitléar, our crafts sessions will explore the rhythm and colours of sound and children will create and design objects that celebrate Ireland’s rich musical heritage and culture.
These are short 30 min ‘taster’ sessions and children will choose one of the 3 options below.
Harmonies in Felt
Create a felted wool picture with textile artist Liadain Butler. You will learn basic traditional flat felt-making techniques as Liadain shows you how to turn wool fibres into strong pieces of felt, using warm water, soap and friction. Then add in your own details with colourful wool fibres to make a beautiful picture inspired by sound.
Build an Instrument
Join instrument maker Ed Devane to craft your very own musical instrument in minutes! Ed Devane is an Irish multidisciplinary artist working primarily with sound. His work encompasses electronic music production, musical instrument design and manufacture, educational workshop facilitation and interactive sound installation.
Use special glass paints to decorate a glass bottle, creating a beautiful recycled wind instrument! Join glass artist Martina Galvin who worked with children to create The Ark’s Of Land & Sky which is a permanent piece of glass artwork that can be seen in our Long Room during your visit.
The above sessions run every 45 minutes (session is 30mins) and places are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Places will be available from 11am on the day and can only be booked in person at Box Office.
