An Online Tool for Easy Music Making in the Classroom 15 Oct 2016

A CPD for Teachers introducing a specially designed online resource for primary music education called Dabbledoo Music.

Creator Shane Mc Kenna will introduce you to the range of free and engaging tools available which uses shapes, colours, appealing musical characters and animated music activities to support easy group music-making that will have any class making music in minutes. Shane will show you how to get the best out of your schools’ instruments and classroom technology using the interactive resources which have been specially developed to connect to the Irish primary school curriculum and support teachers in delivering music in the classroom.

Become familiar with the free online resource and its easy technical setup in the classroom which is optimised for use with interactive whiteboards but can also be easily used without one. We will have an interactive screen available on the day for you to try using the tools in all formats.

Gain confidence with a range of instruments, including the voice. Learn how to organise group performance and assess the group’s musical progress. Become comfortable with composition and collaborative music making. This is music education made more accessible, creative and fun for all ages and will be of interest to teachers of all levels of music experience.

Shane will give you lots of new ideas as he shows how the Dabbledoo Music free interactive online resources can give you all you need to fulfil the requirements of the music curriculum in the classroom – from listening skills to performance and composition. The online tools are then available to teachers all year round to use as an ongoing resource for classroom music.

Dabbledoo Music have presented successful workshops in the past in Froebel College, SMEI Conference, Navan Education Centre and with The National Youth Orchestra of Ireland.

About Shane McKenna...

Shane Mc Kenna is a musician and music teacher based in Dublin, Ireland. He studied Music Education and Music Technology in Trinity College Dublin where he became a leading researcher and developer in the area of new musical notation and collaborative music. He has guest lectured in Ireland and abroad based on his work developing new systems of teaching and learning about music, inside and outside the classroom.

Shane has been teaching music for 12 years, to all ages, in both individual lessons and group workshops. With Dabbledoo Music he has hosted family music workshops and school workshops with thousands of parents, teachers and children, including St Patrick's College and Froebel College.
