Crafting Characters in the Classroom 5 Apr 2014

A visual arts continuing professional development event for teachers.

This practical session with craft artist Carrie Lynam will provide ideas for delivering the Construction and Fabric and fibre strands of the primary visual arts curriculum, along with a number of strands of the primary language curriculum. You will explore ideas and approaches to character development, taking inspiration from the classic bear characters in children’s literature, before being introduced to different ways of working with various textile materials and looking at ways to create characters using textiles. Throughout the session, you will build on your skills to deliver creative and enjoyable textile-related sessions in the classroom. This particular Creative Self workshop is best suited for primary teachers working mainly with junior classes.

Carrie Lynam has worked continually in the area of education, community arts and collaborative practice since graduating with first class honours degree in Fine Art in 2004. She currently works as part of the CRAFTed team for the Crafts Council of Ireland Learning Skills for Life primary schools programme. In her own practice, Carrie creates one off wearable art pieces through textile manipulation and the use of unconventanial materials.
