It’s all about firing your class’s imagination at The Ark this winter. Get ready for an exciting mix of art and illustration, drama, storytelling and puppet-making workshops, all brought to you by leading creative practitioners. Whether you choose a pre-Halloween visual arts treat, active drama, or puppetry, our workshops provide a creative yet structured setting to give children from Junior Infants to 6th Class the freedom and confidence to celebrate their creativity.

Senior Infants – 6th Class

Monday 24 October – Thursday 27 October 10-11.30am & 12.15-1.45pm
The children in your class will design and make their own mini spooky 3D scenes filled with wizards, witches, haunted houses and dark forests. The complexity of the scenes created will depend on the class level and on the abilities of each child. Children can bring their 3D scenes back to school with them, and a short movie of the scenes created will be available to watch back at the classroom on ark.ie/live. An illustrated handout will be available for teachers wishing to create further 3D scenes in class.

Join writer and director Veronica Coburn for an active introduction to theatre-making and storytelling through drama. Using The Ark’s gorgeous theatre space, your class will work together in small groups to devise and present their own stories using image/tableaux, music and lights.

Puppeteer and founder of Púca Puppets Niamh Lawlor leads a winter-themed puppet-making and performance workshop, assisted by Emma Fisher. Meet puppet Mamó Midwinter, who is trying to bring winter to The Ark, but is struggling because all of her winter elves, fairies and imps have gone astray! Your class will experience the long-established art of puppet-making and will construct their own rod puppets, exploring a variety of materials and textures, before joining Mamó in the performance area to create a winter scene.
