I Am a Wolf Back to Top

Sat 22 & Sun 23 July @ 11.30am (Ages 5-7) & 2.30pm (Ages 8 -12)
We love all kinds of animals from pets like dogs and cats that live with us, to wild animals that roam in the forests and jungles. In this drawing and painting workshop, Jole asks, which is your favourite animal? What animal do are you most like or wish that you could magically transform in to?

We sometimes feel as “Free as a bird”, “Brave as a lion" or “Strong as a bull”. Perhaps you sometimes dream of shape-shifting into an animal – to be in their skin and take on their powers.

By reflecting on yourself and on animal characteristics, you will transform a drawing of yourself into a particular creature.

I Wear the Antlers Back to Top

Sat 29, Sun 30 July & Mon 7 Aug @ 11.30am (Ages 5-7) & 2.30pm (Ages 8 -12)
How would you like to take on the power and wisdom of an animal? In many cultural traditions worldwide there is a belief that you can transform yourself by wearing something magical. In North American ancient traditions they believe that by wearing deer antlers they could take on the spirit of the animal.

In this workshop you will find out about the beautiful animal inspired headdresses of ancient Shamans. Then using a variety of natural materials Jole will guide you as you design and make your very own animal inspired head dress.

An Animal in My Pocket Back to Top

Sat 5 & Sun 6 August @ 11.30am (Ages 7-9) & 2.30pm (Ages 10 -12)
This workshop takes inspiration from the art of the Inuit, a people of the Canada’s Arctic region where animals are very central to their livelihood and culture.

You will look at examples of beautiful pocket sized animal carvings made of ivory and bone created by Inuit people. These objects are seen to protect the person who carries them. You will then discover how to carve your very own animal amulet out of soap that you can carry with you wherever you go.

“We carve animals because they are important to us.” P. Kasadluak, Inuit artist.
