Sea Warrior - Maiden Voyage 10 Feb 2024

As part of Spike Cello Festival, experience this thrilling music and storytelling performance based on tales of Grace O’Malley, known as Ireland's "pirate queen".

Through music and spoken word, discover more about the fearless Grace O’Malley (Gráinne Ní Mháille). One of the first Irish female Sea Warriors, this performance recounts her adventures and life experiences, from those as a young girl to those as a wise woman.

These stories are interwoven with music from cellist Naomi Berrill’s album, Inish, performed by Naomi and her trio. The music depicts courageous female figures, island life, and various moments of joy, grief, love, solitude, strength, and beauty. The drama is brought to life by the charismatic, bilingual Florentine actress Adelaide Mancuso.

The spoken word elements of the show will be presented in English with a little flavour of Italian.
