The Tale of the Titanic 14 Apr 2012

Exploring the myth and mystery surrounding the Titanic through storytelling

The Tale of the Titanic
Saturday 14th April
1pm & 3pm (show is 1 hour duration)
Suitable for all the family

NEW: Due to popular demand we have scheduled a second performance of The Tale of the Titanic, showing at 1pm.

To mark the centenary of the sinking of the Titanic, this special storytelling event uses children’s books to explore the myth and mystery surrounding the famous ocean liner.

Literature for all ages has included the story of the Titanic and in ‘The Tale of the Titanic’ we look at the continuing fascination of this historic event through a number of children’s books. For this tale you will be in the company of cellist Kate Ellis, narrator Sorcha Fox and the fictional character ‘Barney’, a chef from RMS Titanic. Restored to life following the melting of the iceberg in which he had been frozen, Barney is on a mission to recreate the famous ship's launch menu as he recounts the stories of the Edwardian city he knew.

Sorcha Fox will dip into the wealth of children’s literature written about the Titanic, including The Voyage of the Titanic by Duncan Crosbie, Survivors, A true-life Titanic Story by Elizabeth Navratil, Kaspar: Prince of Cats by Michael Murprgo and Polar, The Titanic Bear, written by Daisy Speddens, a mother who wrote the book for her son, both of whom survived the disaster.

The Ark would like to thank ‘Titanic Belfast’ for their kind assistance on this event.
