A Most Peculiar Wintry Thing in The MAC, Belfast 28 Nov 2015

The tour of Northern Ireland for The Ark & Music Network's hugely successful festive show ends with two shows at The MAC in Belfast presented by Dumbworld!

With a dynamic blend of original music from composer Brian Irvine, improvisation and audience interaction, this is an intimate and alternative festive show. With a musical atmosphere that feels part circus, part Tim Burton, the show will explore the magic and mystery of all things snowy with favourite memories of winter and some new ones too.

Coming together to perform the music are four virtuoso musicians with an eclectic repertoire of classical, contemporary, jazz and improvising music – whose mission is to explode your world with music! Pianist Matthew Bourne is one of the brightest lights on the UK jazz scene, a free improviser and wild musician. Joining him is Matthew Sharpe, a cellist that likes to sing and talk while playing cello - a walking circus, brimming with energy. The one man percussion orchestra that is Alex Petcu on marimba performs a blend of exotic timbres, pulsing rhythms and interwoven melody lines. Anchoring this wonderful interplay between the four instruments is bass clarinettist Paul Roe, a steady pair of hands and one of Ireland's most distinguished contemporary musicians.

The tour is supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland through the Northern Ireland Music Touring Programme.

First performed at The Ark, Dublin in November 2014.

A Most Peculiar Wintry Thing was originally commissioned and produced by Music Network and The Ark and funded by The Arts Council / An Chomháirle Ealaíon.
