All crafts sessions are inspired by the colours, stories, songs and creatures that live in the mysterious sea around our magical island of Ireland.
The sessions run every 45 minutes (session is 30mins) and places are assigned on a first come, first served basis. Places will be available from 11am on saturday or 12pm on Sunday and can only be booked in person at Box Office.
Presented in partnership with the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland as part of Temple Bar TradFest 2015
Craft Session Options
Make your own sea-world bowl with artist Christien Van Bussel. Firstly, you will learn to roll and cut the clay in a circle and then use different stamps to create sea-shapes in the clay. Then fold-in the sides of the clay in the shape of waves or a starfish to create a bowl shape. Bring your bowl home and you can paint and varnish it when it’s dry.
Visual Artist Jane Groves invites you to explore the treasures of the ocean. Take a close look at shells, seaweeds, crab claws and more, then create a beautiful print to take home. You will firstly draw your print design onto a foam block and then use block printing inks and rollers to make your prints onto on a selection of paper.
TEXTILES: (Recommended for ages 6+)
Create an underwater inspired felt piece with textile artist Caroline Ryan. In this session you will learn basic traditional felt-making techniques. Caroline will show how to turn wool fibres into strong pieces of felt, using hot water, soap and friction. Then create texture and pattern within your pieces that will be inspired by the magical underwater world!
