Children’s Crafts Club 2019 26 - 27 Jan 2019

Try your hand at a variety of fun crafts using different materials at this year’s Tradfest Children’s Crafts Club for Ages 4+. Part of the TradFest Children's Hub 2019.

Using inspiration from the myths and legends of Irish folklore you will make your own unique artwork with materials and techniques of traditional Irish craft. These are short 30 min ‘taster’ sessions and children must choose one of three options led by a professional crafts artist.

  • The Seanchaí Masks with Sandra MacAllister
This Workshop is inspired by the craft of storytelling. Let the stories of Fionn Mac Cumhaill Cuchulainn, The Children of Lir and The Fairies spark your imagination to create fantastical masks. Sandra McAllister is a print and textile artist based in Kilkenny and is a member of the DCCoI Education Panel. She is a graduate of Grennan Mill Craft School and the National College of Art and Design, specialising in sculpture.

  • Felted Folklore with Jane Groves
Inspired by Irish folklore mythology, learn how to use water, soap and your fingers to transform wool fibres into handmade felted square scenes with Jane Groves. Jane studied textiles and has travelled the world to learn more about craft. She works in many different materials and makes for the pure delight of creating.

  • Willow Weaving with Cathy Hayden
Explore willow weaving, one of Irelands oldest traditional craft skills. You will create your own Salmon of Knowledge with basket maker Cathy Hayden. Cathy is a member of the Irish Basket Makers Association and has been making baskets since the early 1980s.

Presented in Partnership with the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland
