Schools Craft Workshops: Creative Kaleidoscopes 22 - 30 Jan 2026

Join artist Róisín de Buitléar in this workshop using glass, mirrors and creativity to create your own unique kaleidoscope, for 1st-6th Class.

Bí i dteannta an ealaíontóra Róisín de Buitléar sa cheardlann seo a úsáideann gloine, scátháin agus cruthaitheacht chun do chailéideascóp uathúil féin a chruthú.

A kaleidoscope is a toy that uses mirrors to create millions of different patterns. Looking through it, colourful shapes multiply and move in front of your eyes.

Using special mirrors inside, sparkling glass pieces are reflected over and over again, making all sorts of magical shapes and colours.Come along and step into the world of optical illusion.

You will work draw and create their own unique patterns. Then using mirrored surfaces, you will experiment with your designs and the magic of reflections. Finally, they will add beautiful glass pieces to create their very own creative kaleidoscope.

Part of the TradFest Children's Hub 2026.

Is bréagán optúil é cailéideascóp a úsáideann scátháin chun na milliúin patrún éagsúla a chruthú. Agus tú ag féachaint tríd, iolraíonn agus bogann cruthanna ildaite. Ag baint úsáid as scátháin speisialta ar an taobh istigh, léirítear píosaí gloine lonracha arís agus arís eile ag cruthú gach saghas cruth agus dathanna draíochta.

Tugann an cheardlann seo deis do pháistí blaiseadh a fháil ar eolaíocht an fhrithchaitheamh agus iad ag obair le dromchlaí scáthánaithe, mar aon le draíocht na siméadrachta a fheiceáil agus ábhar an réada á roghnú acu féin.

About Róisín...

Róisín is passionate about Ireland, its culture, traditions, language and natural beauty. She evolves work that is contemplative, meditative and which reinforces the simple delight of gracious line.

She has been fascinated by glass as much for its beauty as the challenge of working with it. She is continually inspired by the endless creative possibilities that glass offers. This fascination with the transmission of light, shadow and sound also offers opportunities to work in different materials that are either combined with glass or exploit similar characteristics.

She often works in collaboration with other craftpeople or communities to explore, share and develop ideas and issues of social concern. I make small-scale objects and large installations for public and private buildings. I work in layers, using the inherent beauty of the material to draw the viewer into the pieces through light, shadow and colour.

At the core of the work are stories of culture and these are told by using pattern, colour, form. These stories are important to Róisín to explain and share with others.
