Early Years Workshops: The King and the Colour-Catchers 6 - 7 Feb 2026

A playful drama workshop with Joanna Parkes exploring colours and kingdoms for children aged 2–4.

Meet the King who has banned colours from his Kingdom – no blue or yellow flowers, no red clothes or curtains.

He wants everything to be silver, white or grey and he seems to want everyone to be grey and gloomy as well, so there are not many people smiling in his Kingdom.

Join the group of young, brave Colour-Catchers who follow Joanna to find the missing colours and bring them back to the King’s Palace in this drama workshop.

About Joanna...

Joanna became the second recipient of the John Coolahan Early Years Artist in Residency at The Ark in 2019. She has been working in the field of Creative Arts Education as a Drama Facilitator for many years, in many diverse contexts.

Her practice uses participative process drama methods, underpinned by her belief that drama provides people of all ages - from toddlers to 90 year olds - with wonderful opportunities to investigate the world, and their role within it, through play and imagination.

Joanna also completed a Masters in Early Childhood Education which specifically examined the role drama can play in supporting children’s holistic personal development, reinforcing her belief in the profound, transformative power of drama and early engagement with the arts.
