Digital Workshops for Schools: The Race 18 - 21 Nov 2025

Watch our dance show The Race from the comfort of your classroom and then join artist Joanna Parkes for a drama workshop inspired by the show!

Some people can always be in a rush – zoom, zoom! - they never stop. They get a lot done, but they don’t make time to stop to smell the flowers. Other people can be slow and steady, they take their time. They take time to look around and see things around them but maybe feel like they get left behind in a busy world.

In this drama workshop with Joanna Parkes, we’ll use The Tortoise and The Hare to explore different ways of moving and think about when it might be a good idea to move fast – zoom, zoom! - or when it might be good to be slow and steady.

All required materials will be sent to the school upon booking!

Curricular Links

The Race links in with the Drama Curriculum and PE Curricula in the following ways: develop the ability to enter physically, mentally and emotionally into the fictional drama context and discover its possibilities through co-operation with others; experience and create an atmosphere where ideas, feelings and experiences can be expressed, where conflict can be handled positively, and life situations explored openly and honestly; to develop an appreciation of movement and the use of the body as an instrument of expression and creativity. About Joanna Parkes

Joanna has been working in the field of Creative Arts Education as a Drama Facilitator for many years, in many diverse contexts, with a particular emphasis on Drama, Story & Play in Early Year. Joanna became the second recipient of the John Coolahan Early Years Artist in Residency at The Ark in 2019 and has received several Early Years Bursaries from the Arts Council and the 4 Local Authorities in Dublin. Her practice uses participative process drama methods, underpinned by her belief that drama provides people of all ages - from toddlers to 90 year olds - with wonderful opportunities to investigate the world, and their role within it, through play and imagination. Joanna also completed a Masters in Early Childhood Education which specifically examined the role drama can play in supporting children’s holistic personal development, reinforcing her belief in the profound, transformative power of drama and early engagement with the arts.
