Making Music from Outer Space (schools) 18 - 21 Jun 2013

Schools workshops led by Nick Roth (saxophonist and composer) with Judith Ring (sound artist). Part of LIGHTS, CAMERA, MUSIC!: a season of music-making inspired by film.

Junior Infants-2nd Class (60 mins)
3rd-6th Class (90 mins)

Children will use everything from gamelan gongs and out-of-this-world electronic sounds to compose their own soundtracks for a range of archive, comedy and science fiction films. Nick is a highly respected musician, composer and educator who delights in bringing music to life for children. He is joined for these workshops by composer and pianist Judith Ring who will introduce children to her intriguing music-making electronics. Any students who happen to play an instrument are invited to bring them along, though this is not a requirement.

Attending a LIGHTS, CAMERA, MUSIC! workshop with your class will cover many of the key elements in the music curriculum, including developing an awareness of musical concepts, exploring sounds, listening and responding to music, playing instruments, and composing, improvising and creating.
