Me & The City - Open House 7 Apr 2018
To mark the end of our Me & The City programme, we open up our doors for you to come and take a look at what the children have been up to!
Me & The City was a month-long creative visual arts programme where children worked with lead artist Jole Bortoli to discover and explore the colours and textures of a city and its buildings, sculptures and street art. During the last 5 weeks, children have taken part in themed workshops exploring architecture, street art, town planning, environments, sculptures and creating brand new landmarks for Dublin. To help inspire our young architects and artists, we created an exclusive exhibition that was seen only by those taking part in our workshops - this is your only chance to see the exhibition as well as examples of the artwork that children have created.
On display will be the results of our two 4-day visual art camps, where children have planned, designed and modelled a brand-new childrens quarter in two areas of Dublin - College Green and the area between Dublin City Council's offices and Christchurch Cathedral. As well as being inspired by the features and buildings currently in these areas, the children were hugely inspired by the ideas of children accross the country who send in their ideas of what should be in a children's zone - all of these ideas got added to our wishlist wall. The children explored some of these ideas in their final plans.
You will also have the opportunity to give some of your ideas for making the city a more fun place to be to our friends at A Playful City who have set up their interactive Pow Wow station which allows people of all ages to give their ideas and opinions on how play can transform the spaces in their communities in a fun and relaxed way. So come along, be inspired by what you see and share some of your feedback and suggestions for making the city more playful, enjoyable and accessible to all.
This Workshop is part of the Open House Dublin architecture festival and is kindly supported by the Irish Architecture Foundation.
