Nomad (FR & IE) 30 Mar 2023

Join children from St. Mary’s National School as they perform music they have created during a series of workshops with French musician Sophie Boucher.

The Ark is delighted to present our fifth Nomad as part of BIG BANG Dublin! The idea behind the Nomad project is a simple one. A professional musician creates a musical performance or concert with a group of children or young people. The children’s musical talents and cultural influences merge with those of the musician.

This year, amazing body percussionist and guitarist Sophie Boucher will lead a series of collaborative music workshops with children from St. Mary’s Primary School, Dorset Street. Over the course of the Nomad workshops, Sophie will work with the children to explore a range of musical ideas and together they will devise a short music performance, which will be a unique expression of their personalities and musical imaginations.

The children will perform the music they have created at The Ark with accompaniment from Sophie and support from Claire Sherry on fiddle.

Sophie Boucher

Constantly attracted by rhythm, this musician studied guitar and bass at the conservatories of Lorient and Grenoble. She trained in body percussion with the Barbatuques, Keith Terry, Leela Petronio, Arcosm etc. Since 2008, she has been experimenting with all artistic forms that combine music, dance and movement, asking herself (meta)physical questions about sound vibrations and, above all, wanting to transmit and share positive vibes on stage and in everyday life. Currently, she is a composer-performer in projects combining music, dance and theater (Soleo , Papagalli Chante, La Bougeotte, Tri-bal with Isabelle Pignol No Mas la Banda, las Gojatas etc.) and trainer in body percussion (CFMI, CNFPT, CEFEDEM, conservatories etc).
