Doodle Days Workshops: Illustrating Your Own Storybook! 25 - 26 Feb 2022
Illustrations and pictures can tell a thousand words but have you ever wanted to try your hand at it yourself? In this layered illustrations and simple no-sew book-making workshop with artist Kim Sharkey, you will get that chance to do just that!
Ages 5-7yrs (11am each day)
Create your own ‘no-sew’ book and build exciting illustrations, exploring layering techniques to combine backgrounds with characters and foreground elements.
Award-winning illustrator Kim Sharkey will demonstrate how she uses layering in her illustrations. With tools from her studio, Kim will share insights of how the building of images is explored by illustrators. Come along to this workshop with your story ideas and bring them to life by making a simple no-sew book! You will use paper layering to build storytelling images, adding drawings on translucent paper layers over a background environment drawing.
Ages 8-12 (2pm each day)
Create your own layered illustrations in a book format, focusing on the importance of shape in illustration. Join illustrator Kim Sharkey as she shares how you can create feeling and tension in your illustrations through the use of shape.
Kim also shares other important hints and tricks that help build exciting illustrations. She will bring tools from her studio, showing how the building of images is explored by illustrators. Bring your story ideas and make a simple no-sew book! You will use paper layering to build storytelling images, adding drawings on translucent paper layers over a background environment drawing.
COVID-19 Measures
We want you to feel comfortable and confident in attending live in-person workshops at The Ark and can reassure you that we have safety measures in place and will continue to adjust these in response to public health.
Enhanced ventilation, cleaning and hygiene measures are in place, with hand sanitising stations and one-way systems.
Face coverings are mandatory for grown-ups and young people aged 13+ at all times while inside The Ark, while children under 13 are encouraged to wear face coverings if they feel comfortable to do so.

Refunds & Cancellation Policy: If any events are cancelled by The Ark whether due to COVID-19 or any other reason, then we refund all audiences affected. As part of our COVID-19 protocols, we ask that if you are feeling unwell or displaying symptoms of COVID-19, you follow government guidelines, remain at home and self-isolate. Our box office can arrange a refund of your ticket in these circumstances provided you let us know at least an hour in advance of the workshop.
