Schools: ‘My Dublin’ Precious Book Workshops 28 - 29 May 2014
In this workshop, led by artist Deirdre Rogers, children will create their own books inspired by Dublin’s One City One Book title for 2014 If Ever You Go: A Map of Dublin in Poetry and Song. In advance of this workshop, you should work with your class to explore about what is special and unique about your Dublin locality/area. They will then bring these ideas into the workshop with them as the inspiration for the stories the children will write in their books.
The visual style and look of the books will be inspired by the beautiful books written around the time of Brian Boru and the Vikings. These books made by Irish monks were filled with elaborately decorated letters, borders and patterns, plants and animals, all beautifully illuminated with gold and silver. Your class will learn block printing and calligraphy style drawing and writing techniques to bring their Dublin story to life with colour, some fun and imagination, creating their own precious book to treasure forever.
These workshops are supported by Dublin-Unesco City of Literature.
