Secret Garden Saturdays - Visual Arts Workshops 7 Jul - 25 Aug 2018

Above the hustle and bustle of Temple Bar is its best-kept secret…The Ark’s top floor workshop & garden! Join artist Jane Groves for a series of visual art workshops inspired by what you can see and hear out there.

Jane has created a series of gorgeous visual art workshops where you will use natural materials and playful processes to explore the birds, bugs and trees through drawing, print, clay and costume making. The theme and detail of each workshop is different - you can come to one or to all five saturdays.

  • July 7 - Botanical Drawing.
    11.30am & 2pm (Ages 5-7)
    Create beautiful paintings using nature’s toolbox. In this workshop you will experience the surprising tools and materials you might find in your garden and use them to make your own natural artworks. Investigate the potential of sticks, stones and feathers to make marks and explore vibrant watercolours and dusty charcoal.

  • July 28 - Through the Magnifying Glass
    11.30am (Ages 5-7) & 2pm (Ages 8-12)
    What insects live in your garden? We’ll take a close look at insect microcosm and their many shapes and textures before creating your very own print to take home. 8-12’s will create large scale artworks.
  • Aug 4 - Ireland’s Tree Spirits
    11.30am & 2pm (Ages 5-7)
    Explore the amazing trees of Ireland and their strange folklore before creating your own magical tree spirit from clay which you can take home to live in your garden or home.
  • Aug 18 - Taking Flight
    11.30am (Ages 5-7) & 2pm (Ages 8-12)
    Be inspired by birds in this mixed media costume workshop and see your imagination take flight as you create your own unique set of wings to wear.
  • Aug 25 - The Ark Aviary
    11.30am (Ages 5-7) & 2pm (Ages 8-12)
    Become part of The Ark flock in this bird mask making workshop. You will use paper and natural mixed media to create your own distinct bird mask. Birds come in all shapes and sizes and colours - What type of bird will you be?
