This St. Patrick’s Festival, The Ark celebrates traditional singing, music and crafts with a range of exciting events for children and families taking place throughout The Ark building. Learn ancient songs from the Scottish Isles, see music turned into wild willow sculptures or enjoy a magical concert of Celtic songs.
Special Event: Hand-Crafted Music (Suitable for all the family)
With musician Caoimhin Ó Raghallaigh and artist Jean Conroy

If you could see music take shape, what would it look like? Immerse yourself in the dreamy live music of outstanding fiddle player Caoimhin Ó Raghallaigh and be enchanted as gifted artist Jean Conroy brings his beautiful music to life with her hands. Watch as she creates exquisite willow, textile and yarn sculptures inspired by what she hears right before your eyes!
Each Hand-Crafted Music session will last approximately 20mins.
Tickets Free of Charge. Admission is on a first come first served basis (no advance booking available). All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Workshop: Scottish Songs of Land and Sea (Ages 7-12 yrs)
With Scottish master traditional singer Mary Smith

Come sing ancient songs from the islands of the Outer Hebrides with Mary Smith, master singer of the Scottish tradition. Enjoy bringing these beautiful songs of the land and sea to life and discover how they were once used as part of traditional crafts. Have fun as you use your hands, feet and perhaps even a length of cloth to make the rhythm for the songs as in days of old. An experience not to be missed.
Tickets €10/€8* for the workshop. No booking fee.
*Concession price is for the children of third-level students, senior citizens, the unwaged and those parenting alone.
Family Concert: Songs, Yarns and Fables (Suitable for all the family)
With Scottish and Irish traditional singers Mary Smith, Maighread Ní Dhomhnaill and Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill

Enter a magical world of songs and stories, shanties and legends with singers Mary Smith and sisters Maighread and Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill. These three highly accomplished sages of traditional singing from Scotland and Ireland will weave together their secret stores of fables and songs for this special family performance.
Tickets €10/€8* for the concert. No booking fee. Everyone attending a concert must purchase a ticket and adults must be accompanied by a child.
