Still Loading... 11 Jun 2022

The Ark Children’s Council presents a mini-festival of new performances-in-progress for children. Part of Dublin City Council’s Cruinniú na nÓg.

Still Loading... is a really exciting sharing, filled with short but sweet snippets of works in progress by different artists. As members of the Children’s Council, we know the importance of gathering feedback and sharing our opinions, so we invite you to these performances to do just that!

All of the pieces are creative, original, enjoyable, and wacky! One of the best things about Still Loading... is that we all get a ‘behind the scenes’ look at new performances that aren't fully finished yet, that you might be able to see at The Ark in the future!

So, what are you waiting for? Come along for this jam-packed hour that is fun for all the family (ages 8+). We hope you enjoy it!

We are The Ark Children’s Council, and we helped organise this event. We are a group of 35 children aged 9-11 who come to The Ark about once a month. We do workshops in art, music, film, and drama and we go to many events at The Ark. We give a lot of feedback to The Ark and we meet a lot of artists. We help The Ark to make decisions about the work they do.

The chosen works in progress for Still Loading... 2022 are:

  • Making of Mollie by Anna Carey
  • Voiceworks by Lauren Kinsella
  • Fergal by Liam McCarthy with Darren Yorke and Duffy Mooney Sheppard.
  • The Giggler Treatment by Fionn Foley based on the book by Roddy Doyle

Making of Mollie

Commissioned by The Ark, Making of Mollie is centered around Mollie Carberry's life which seems pretty dull at first until she discovers her older sister Phyllis is a suffragette! When she and her friend Nora get involved they must face an important question - How far a girl should go for her beliefs? An extract of this exciting story will be performed at Still Loading.

Voiceworks

Voiceworks is the working title for Lauren Kinsella’s piece. This performance will allow the audience to explore nature through the use of poetic lyrics and rhythmic melodies.

Written and Composed by Lauren Kinsella
Performed by
Aoife Doyle and Liselotte Östblom

Fergal

“Being alone does not mean you are lonely.”

Fergal shows up at the beach one day. He just wants to be left alone, but everyone keeps following him...

Fergal is a play for children about the importance of enjoying your own company. Supported by the Arts Council, Limerick City and County Council and Branar's "Meitheal" initiative - it is performed by Darren Yorke.

Created by Liam McCarthy with Darren Yorke and Duffy Mooney Sheppard.
Performed by Darren Yorke

The Giggler Treatment

Have you ever wondered what happens when adults are mean to children? Well, they get the Giggler Treatment!

It's smelly. It's squishy. And it sticks to your shoe. Charged with dishing out this pong-ey punishment are a trio of small furry creatures called The Gigglers. Today they are hot of the trail of Mister Mack, who has sent his kids to bed without their dinner. But sometimes, just sometimes, the Gigglers make a mistake... Can Robbie, Kayla, Jimmy and Rover the dog come to Mr Mack's rescue before the poo hits the shoe?

The Giggler Treatment is a gloriously silly new musical by Fionn Foley based on the much beloved book by Roddy Doyle.

Written and Performed by Fionn Foley
