Far Away From Me at Pavilion Theatre 16 Apr 2015
Far Away From Me is written by award-winning writer Amy Conroy and is inspired by the classic story of The Princess and The Pea. And when we say 'inspired by', we mean that the show takes the story as you think you know it, turns it on its head and flying through the air until it becomes a very modern, exciting retelling of the fairy tale world and characters of the original. Featuring the excitement of aerial performance, dance music and great storytelling, bringing your children to see the show is sure to give you a fun family arts experience!
Curricular links
Attending Far Away From Me with your class will have relevance to the following aims of the Drama Curriculum:
• To enable the child to become drama literate
• To enable the child to understand the structures and modes of drama and how they create links between play, thought and life.
• To enable the child to begin the process of translating a knowledge of drama into the active exploration of life themes from drama literature, leading to the appreciation of world drama culture
• To form the criteria with which to evaluate the drama texts, written or performed, to which he/she is continually exposed.
The show will also give teachers the opportunity to use the narrative of the play to explore all three strands of the SPHE curriculum. In particular, strand units such as Self Identity, Growing & Changing, Making Decisions, Myself and My Family, My Friends and Other People, Relating to Others and Developing Citizenship are very relevant. Children will be able to identify and empathise with Kevin as he explores and tries to avoid the things that are worrying him. They will then witness and celebrate his growing realisation that he is able to deal with the changes that life brings.
