The Joculator (IE) 1 - 2 Apr 2023

Composer and musician George Higgs returns to The Ark’s Big Bang Festival Dublin with his fantastic Joculator.

The Joculator is a curiosity inspiring, bicycle propelled and powered electro acoustic vehicle in which George can create, record and perform music.

Saturday, April 1

The Joculator will be stationed in Filmbase for Adventures in Live Sampling: a delightful walk-in experience for children to have their voices recorded and played back to them directly from this unusual electro acoustic vehicle. Who knows, maybe your recording might be played by The Joculator in its performances in Meeting House Square the following day!

Sunday, April 2

Watch and listen as George and the Joculator take a peculiar pedal powered musical journey around Meeting House Square. Then three brilliant brass musicians join in and together they perform Music for Joculator, Voices, Brass and Tape.

This unique piece of music was originally composed and recorded on the streets of Temple Bar way back in July 2010. This new performance especially for The Ark’s Big Bang Festival Dublin will feature voices of children recorded the previous day in the Adventures in Live Sampling workshop.

Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind performance!

The Joculator was originally commissioned by Temple Cultural Trust, 2010
