Presented by The Ark in partnership with Dublin Book Festival, this workshop led by poet Thembe Mvula will inspire imaginations and foster a space for wellbeing.
In this one-off workshop, children from 5th or 6th class will experience a boost of creativity and compose writing that finds the extraordinary in the everyday.
Involving a mix of play, writing prompts and engagement with different styles of written and performance poetry, the session is designed to encourage confidence in reading and writing poems.
Thembe is a South African/British writer and poet, an alum of the Obsidian Foundation retreat, Barbican Young Poets and the Roundhouse Poetry Collective. Her poetry has been recently anthologised in Part of a Story That Started Before Me (Penguin Random House, 2023), Before Them, We (Flipped Eye Publishing, 2022) and The Black Anthology (10:10 Press, 2021). She is a certified writing for therapeutic purposes practitioner, and has worked with organisations such as National Literacy Trust, Black Girl Festival and Apples and Snakes to facilitate pupils, community groups and professionals in finding their creative voice.
