Game Plan

Game Plan was a touring exhibition from the Victoria and Albert Museum hosted by The Ark in 2019, that celebrated the joy, excitement (and occasional frustration) of playing board games. For Junior Infants to 6th Class.
This pack contains three sections full of activities that guide teachers to facilitate STEAM-based learning through play, games development of design:
Section 1 - Rules & Games
In this section, students will explore the purpose of rules, the process of following them and the consequences of breaking them through simple, classroom-based games and activities. This section will support areas in the curriculum such as the Arts, Maths, Social, Environmental and Scientific Education, Physical Education, Social Personal and Health Education.
Section 2 - STEAM-based Game System Design
In this section, students will explore game design and develop STEAM-based skills to playing, inventing and designing their own board games. As well as STEAM subjects, this section will support other areas in the curriculum including Social, Environmental and Scientific Education, Physical Education, Social Personal and Health Education and Languages. They will learn about communication by looking at different languages and codes.
Section 3 - STEAM-based Board Game Projects
In this section, students will practice game design and apply their STEAM-based skills to board game projects. As well as STEAM subjects, this section will support other areas in the curriculum including Social, Environmental and Scientific Education, Social Personal and Health Education and Religious Education and Languages.

If you prefer, as part of The Ark @ Home, we have also adapted our Design a Treasure Hunt Board Game activity from this pack for home use, which may be simpler for children to engage with on their own or with family members in their homes. Find out more here.
