Celebrate Euroscience Open Forum 6 - 15 Jul 2012

The Ark celebrates the arrival of Euroscience Open Forum in Dublin with a week of special events and talks for families

The Ark and IMMA collaborative "Be an artist" workshop

Friday 6 July Part 1, The Ark, 11am-12.30pm

Saturday 7 July Part 2, IMMA, Earlsfort Terrace, Dublin 2, 11am-2pm
Ages 8-12 & adult

Children and accompanying adults will work in pairs to create an artwork inspired by Awakening Curiosity at The Ark and the Time Out of Mind exhibition at IMMA. Uniquely, the artworks created by everyone taking part in this workshop will be displayed in IMMA afterwards.

Sun 8 Jul Create a plant or creature using a variety of materials with John Kavanagh.
Tue 10 Jul Create a mini organic garden with Jane Coulson.
Wed 11 Jul Create a plant or creature using a variety of materials with John Kavanagh.
Thu 12 Jul Create a plant or creature using a variety of materials with John Kavanagh.
Fri 13 Jul Design and sculpt animals and birds with Terry O’Farrell.
Sat 14 Jul Make fantastical birdhouses using recyclable materials with Veronica Forsgren.
Sun 15 Jul Build a creature for our garden with Monster Truck Galleries and Studios.

Meet the Scientist: in collaboration with UCD Science Centre

Thursday 12 July–Sunday 15 July 3–3.40pm
Ages 4+

Over four afternoons we will have a scientist answering your questions about bats, volcanoes, waves, where chocolate comes from, and lots more.

Thu 12 Jul: Dr Fiona Doohan - Where does chocolate come from? & Let’s look at the food chain.

Fri 13 Jul: Aidan Holohan - How do ecosystems respond to global climate change?

Sat 14 Jul: Dr Emma Teeling - The bizarre and brilliant world of bats: a scientific exploration into what they do and what they are.

Sun 15 Jul: Dr Megan Zecevic - Volcanoes: How do they form and why do they erupt?

Meet Marine Life: with Galway Atlantaquaria

Saturday 14 July 11am-2pm, drop-in event
Ages 4+

Get up close and personal with lobsters, Ireland's smallest type of shark and Spiny Starfish.
