DCCOI - CPD for Education Panel 2020 1 Feb 2020
The Design & Crafts Council of Ireland hosts this Continued Professional Development course for their Education Panel, which is also open to members of The Ark Artists Club.
The Keynote speaker for the day is an award-winning graphic designer for film and TV, Annie Atkins, who is known for her work on films such as Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel, Isle of Dogs, Boxtrolls, Bridge of Spies and most recently The Joker.
Workshop participants will then alternate between morning & afternoon so each participant on the day will take part in both of the below workshops:
-
WORKSHOP 1: Handling Engagement with visual artist Siobhán Clancy
This practical workshop will explore multi-sensory engagement techniques by artists and makers for community, youth and schools groups. Siobhán Clancy will share her experience collaborating with community groups on a set of museum loan boxes for The Hunt Museum in Limerick in 2015 and, more recently, developing engagement programmes through Where is Our Feminist Library. Siobhán will introduce participants to a number of methodologies for facilitating diverse audience needs including Constructivist Pedagogies, Visual Strategies and Audio Description. She will also offer some considerations particular to health and disability contexts. Participants will have the opportunity to experiment with these methods through some group work and to reflect on their relevance to the contexts we work in and benefits to practice sharing. -
WORKSHOP 2: Spreag (Inspire) with visual artist Helen Barry
How, when and where does practice, inspire, support and grow, and what does this environment look like? Using a multi-sensory approach participants will reflect, share and deepen their experience and knowledge of engaging with children in an education setting. Together, we will examine the importance of supporting the ‘independent’ artist in the classroom and take a moment to acknowledge the wealth of experience held within the Education Panel while having some fun playing with the dexterity of conversation and finger-tips.
