Animation and Scratch Book created to document The Ark's Early Years Residencies

Artist Kate Escolin and Beag Animations have created beautiful documentation of our residency in Darndale Belcamp Integrated Childcare Service: Jigsaw Centre and St. Joseph’s Early Childhood Development Service.

Scratch Book by Kate Escolin

In St. Joseph’s Early Childhood Development Service, visual artists Jane Groves and Olga Vnukova delivered 8 weeks of visual arts workshops to children aged 3 and 4 years.

Children planted seeds, learnt about the Autumn season, made shadow puppets, and played and created with new and natural materials.

To document the magic of the workshops learnings, Kate Escolin created a scratch book with original illustrations and activity prompts inspired by the workshops. These books were gifted to the centre to allow the creativity to continue long after the residency ended.

Animation by Kate Escolin and Beag Animations

The animation is a beautiful, soft re-telling of the magic created during the music workshops facilitated by musicians Kasia Eliasz and Gustavo de Morais during their 8 week residency at Darndale Belcamp Integrated Childcare Service: Jigsaw Centre.

The artists delivered 8 music and movement workshops to children ages 1- 2 years in the Teddy Bears and Clever Cats rooms. Kasia and Gustavo played the guitar and the Tibetan bowl while singing familiar nursery rhymes, new songs and even creating music to children’s familiar stories. The children danced with rainbow ribbons and played with different percussion instruments such as: Brazilian ganzá, caxixi and tamborims; colourful egg shakers; and cabalonga nut shakers.
