Ark Art in Schools is Back!
It is an exciting time of the year with schools starting back and we are delighted to be continuing our work in schools and upholding our vision of the arts for every child with our Ark Art in Schools programme.
At The Ark our purpose is to realise children’s right to art and culture with ambition and joy. Visits to cultural spaces are a great opportunity for children to experience the arts but we understand that such visits are not always possible for the entire school. With this in mind, we created the Ark Art in Schools programme which is now in its third year.
Our visual arts collection, with over 100 pieces, spans work commissioned from a wealth of artists across a timeframe of 30 years and each piece has been made specifically with children in mind.
‘Going Places’ is a selection of seven artworks from The Ark’s visual arts collection and they will be displayed in five participating schools in the Dublin area. Each school will receive one piece of work on loan for one month at a time and will then be replaced by a new piece for a further month over a five-month period, spreading the joy of visual art to local children.
The current participating schools are; St. John of Gods, Presentation Georges Hill, St. Laurence O'Tooles, South City CNS and Harolds Cross NS.
The current artworks in rotation are;
- Fish by Luxon Gutsa
- 20,000 Winters by Gabhann Dunne
- Refuge by Rita Duffy
- Jet Trail by Michael Durand
- Wilhelma by Imogen Stuart
- Billinskelligs by Lorraine Wall
- View from the Roosevelt Island Elevated Tram by Brian Bourke
