The Ark Children's Council 2022

What is The Ark’s Children’s Council?

The Ark Children’s Council is a group of children of 4th and 5th class age who have free access to attend all events at The Ark over the course of a year. Mentored and guided by The Ark Engagement and Participation Artist, Shaun Dunne, the children have the opportunity to become familiar with a range of artforms, to look behind the scenes, collaborate with The Ark staff, see and respond to work in development, and meet and work with visiting artists. They explore children’s rights through engagement with the arts while also amplifying the voice of the child within our organisation.

The Children’s Council will attend The Ark for key events, once or twice a month from October 2023 to July 2024, on Saturday morning usually from 10am-1pm.

How Do You Get Involved?

On Saturdays 19 and 26 August 2023, we will run taster workshops with The Ark Engagement and Participation Artist, Shaun Dunne. This is your chance to find out more and get a taste of what our council sessions are like with these free drama workshops.

The Children’s Council is free but spaces are limited, and it does require commitment and consistent attendance to the programme.

To book a place on a taster workshop, just complete the booking form below.

https://form.jotform.com/220542206662347

Once you have completed the form, The Ark team will be in touch to confirm your workshop place.

**UPDATED - All workshop places have been filled and applications are now closed.

How are participants selected?

During the taster workshops, The Ark team will observe the children working together. An application form will follow the workshop for children that are interested in becoming a member of the Council, and The Ark team will put together a group of 30 children. While we wish that we could accept everyone who applies, we can only accept 30 children.

The Ark team will be in touch to confirm who has been selected to join the Children's Council in the week commencing 18 September. You can find more information about The Ark Children's Council here.

Please note: The Ark expects to receive more applications than places available, which is why we are running the recruitment sessions. The project aims to represent a mix of children that reflects the diversity of young people in Ireland today. In line with The Ark’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy, we actively seek to ensure equality in terms of access and engagement across gender, ethnicity, age, orientation, membership of the Traveller Community, socio-economic status, family or civil status, disability, or religion.
