The Ark Turns 30 Years Young!

We marked our 30th birthday in style this past weekend! The building was packed with children, families, artists, alumni and supporters to honour three decades of excellent work and cultural experiences made for, by, with and about children.

It was also a very special day because we officially opened Voyages, our a brand-new FREE summer exhibition, curated by children for children.

To celebrate this big birthday, twelve young people – aged 10 to 17 – explored The Ark’s visual art collection and co-curated a playful, imaginative exhibition, led by artist Róisín White.

Members of the Children's Council and Co-Curation Committee shared some words on their experience at The Ark and what being a member of the council has meant to them. Carol Fawsitt, our Board Chair, spoke on the growth of The Ark over the years and the vital role of the arts in children’s lives. We also heard from Aideen Howard, Director of The Ark, who thanked all those who have shaped The Ark’s journey over the past three decades and helped amplify our vision of #artsforEVERYchild.

And what's a birthday party without cake! To top off the celebrations, council members designed a cake that they felt reflected The Ark, which was then brought to life for everyone to enjoy!

But the celebrations don't stop here. Voyages runs until 23 August and is free to attend. It is a celebration of imagination, curiosity, and what happens when young people take the wheel!

Here’s to 30 wonderful years—and many more voyages to come.
