Interested in joining The Ark Children's Council?

Are you a creative young person who loves drama, music, dance or art? If you are going into 4th or 5th Class in September 2025 then this could be right up your street!

What is The Ark’s Children’s Council?

The Ark Children’s Council is a fun and dynamic year-long experience for a group of children in 4th & 5th class, you will go to events, give us your thoughts on our programmes & our shows, and have a say in our decision making at The Ark.

The Ark Children’s Council is facilitated by Shaun Dunne, a playwright and expert facilitator and Engagement & Participation Coordinator Estibaliz Errazquin.

The Children’s Council will attend The Ark for key events, once or twice a month from October 2025 to July 2026, on Saturday mornings usually 10am-1pm.

How To Get Involved?

If you are interest in The Ark Children’s Council, just complete the booking form below by Monday 1 September at 12 noon.

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend a free taster workshop with The Ark Engagement and Participation Artist, Shaun Dunne on 13 or 27 September 2025. The taster session will give you a chance to find out more about The Ark and get to see what our council sessions are like.

The Children’s Council is free, but spaces are limited. We want you to get the most out of it, so we do ask you for consistent attendance over the year.

The Ark team will be in touch to confirm if you have been shortlisted on Friday 5 September. If you are shortlisted, you must attend one of the taster workshops on 13 or 27 September.

How are participants selected?

Based on what you say in your form, The Ark team will invite a group of children to attend the taster workshop at The Ark. During this workshop, The Ark team will put together a group of 30 young people, based on how everyone is getting on and to get a mix of children on the Council.

We wish that we could accept everyone who applies, but we can only accept a maximum of 30 children.

Please note: The Ark expects to receive more applications than places available, which is why we are running the recruitment sessions. The project aims to represent a mix of children that reflects the diversity of young people in Ireland today. In line with The Ark’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy, we actively seek to ensure equality in terms of access and engagement across gender, ethnicity, age, orientation, membership of the Traveller Community, socio-economic status, family or civil status, disability, or religion.
